Built in 1780,
during the era of Venetian Occupation. It is impressive in its simplicity, featuring curved cornerstones and meticulously crafted hewn stones sourced from Hydra or the nearby small island in the Hydra Gulf, Dokos. The construction incorporates plain stones, marble stones, and unpolished marble, all carefully balanced and fixed without the use of mortar, with the edges painted white.”
The house was later renovated by seasoned craftsmen, dedicated keepers of their art. The oldest among them was only 10 years old when he first assisted his father during the initial renovation led by Ioanna, the grandmother. Today, under his experienced leadership, the house has once again come to life.
The Hydriot stone was carefully scraped and left to breathe, without unnecessary varnish. The walls were meticulously reinforced with chestnut wood additions, securely bound to provide proper support while preserving the unique character of local architecture. Wood was finely sanded, lamps and other objects were polished, suitable lighting was installed, and sofas and beds were custom-built. New rooms and spaces were created, including bathrooms, kitchens, and storage rooms.The house has truly been rejuvenated, taking on a new form and is now prepared to warmly welcome its guests.”
